Owen Eric Wood (Canada)
video projection on sculpture, 2013
Traditional portraiture, be it painting or analogue photography, required subjects to sit still while their image was captured. Of course, such patience is no longer required. By re-projecting video self-portraits onto myself, and then finally onto a sculpture of the chair I repeatedly sit in and get up from, I create a portrait of myself that is constantly in motion, constantly in flux. Time is both the form and the subject matter of this piece as I want to express how our relationship with and perception of time affects our mental, emotional and spiritual state.
